3 Ways to Simplify your Marketing



Social media posts, creative informational blogs, emails, paid promotions, analytics, SEO — oh my! When it comes to marketing your personal business, it can quickly become overwhelming. If you’re doing it all alone like most freelancers and businesspersons, the pressure to perform feels even heavier. So, in this blog, I am going to discuss 3 ways to simplify your marketing techniques.

As an experienced social media marketer, let me just be honest: great marketing can feel really hard. That’s why there are entire companies dedicated to it! But if your pockets aren’t that full (yet), here I am sharing three ways to simplify your marketing so you can actually expand or grow your business without losing your sleep.

1. Create a list of what you’re doing

Always do this thing first: make a proper note of everything you’re currently doing to promote your business. Even if you did one random advertising thing that one random time, write it down! I am talking about your website, that one time you promoted a Facebook or Instagram ad, your emails campaigns, your outreach/pitching, all of it. Why? It’s time to evaluate what’s working and what’s not. Because the reality is, even if you are doing it all, it’s not all going to work. Here’s an example of it…

Let’s suppose you have a business or product in a really dense market, like website designing. You may have tried to modernize your website using an SEO strategy based on “graphic design” as your primary keyword. That kind of work is not only difficult, but it can be near impossible to secure high page rankings against well-established opponents. Plus, there are just a lot of other people like you optimizing or writing for the same keywords.

But if you’ve seen success with other marketing strategies like email campaigning or engaging Instagram posts, put more of your effort or time there! Because as a freelance digital marketer I am telling you that your time is precious, so spend it on things that are giving results, and cut out the stuff that doesn’t.

2. Review your marketing calendar regularly

A proper marketing calendar and a solid content plan are very important for any business, but they can also create a lot of frustration in your mind. How? Let’s suppose you set an intention to write a new blog post every week or post on social media every day — both of which are great goals to grow! But then life happens and unexpectedly you can’t keep up. 

From there, you might start to feel overwhelmed, hasty, and offended. That’s not perfect when it comes to your marketing! That’s why it’s so important to review your marketing plan and figure out where you can scale back or plan ahead properly. What feels irresistible to you? Have you left any time for your personal life? Ask yourself the tough questions and always be honest with what you can handle. 

Maybe instead of a new blog every week, you opt to write 3 in a month. Maybe, instead of posting every single day on social media, you make space to go quiet on the weekends to give yourself a break. Always keep in mind: quality always beats quantity, so there’s no shame in downscaling your marketing efforts to focus on what creates the most impact. This is an easy way to simplify your marketing.

3. Evaluate your weekly + monthly tasks

As a freelance website designer, I am being very honest, the life of an entrepreneur is a little less wonderful and a little more tedious than some might believe. Emails, records, scheduling, posting, commenting… all of those minor marketing tasks can really add up and can affect the time you spend on things you actually love doing. 

So, once you regulate what your more main weekly and monthly tasks are, start to ask questions like:

·         Can you batch your tasks to save your time?

·         Can you outsource the tasks that you hate doing?

·         Can you research and find free tools or programs to help with scheduling?

·         Can you hire an assistant to help keep you systematized?

·         Are there any manual tasks that can be easily done with digital solutions?

Probabilities are, the answer to at least one (or all) of those questions is yesWhile it might take more time to the right keys, the payoff will be precious.
